The Dovedale Dipper

The Dovedale Dipper, nestled within the Peak District National Park's serene landscapes, offers runners and hikers an unforgettable journey through Derbyshire and Staffordshire. This beloved annual trail event has been revitalized by CraggRunner after a hiatus following its previous organization by the Matlock Rotary Club from 2003 to 2019.
Participants can choose between two scenic routes: a challenging 26-mile course for competitive runners who start at 10:00, and a more leisurely 15-mile route beginning at 11:00. Early starts are also available from 08:30 to 09:30 on the longer trail and between 10:05 and 10:30 for those tackling the shorter distance.
The event’s terrain is a tapestry of rolling hills, lush valleys, and charming villages, providing breathtaking views at every turn. The route winds through some of England's most picturesque countryside, making it an ideal destination for both seasoned athletes and casual enthusiasts looking to explore the beauty of the White Peak area.
To ensure safety and adherence to strict time limits, checkpoints are strategically placed along each course with specific opening hours based on average participant speeds. These times must be carefully considered when selecting a start option as late arrivals will not be permitted past checkpoint closures. Light refreshments are available at these stops throughout the day, while hearty hot meals await those who reach the finish line by 8:00 PM.
A unique feature of this event is the inclusion of XCover, which allows participants to secure their entry fee in case they need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness or injury. This ensures that no one misses out on future editions of The Dovedale Dipper should life's unexpected challenges arise.
