About the Event

The Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Race returns to Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland for an exhilarating day of cycling and community engagement. Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 30, 2026 (with a rain date on September 27). This event offers something for every level of mountain biking enthusiast.
Rosaryville State Park stands as a premier destination in the area, renowned for its beginner-friendly trails and fun atmosphere. For over 15 years, this park has hosted the Cranky Monkey race, making it a beloved fixture among local cyclists.
The day will feature four distinct courses:
- Beginner Course: A scenic journey of approximately 5.6 miles with about 400 feet of elevation change. This course introduces riders to mountain biking on the western portion of the Perimeter Trail.

- Base Course: Stretching a bit longer at around 9 miles, this trail includes more technical sections such as the Tilly Trail while maintaining the safety and accessibility for beginners.
- Sport Course: Covering about 20 miles with significant elevation changes (around 1,500 feet), this route offers an extensive tour of Rosaryville’s trail system. Highlights include both the Perimeter and Tilly Trails.
- Expert Course: For seasoned riders seeking a challenge, the expert course spans approximately 30 miles with roughly 2,200 feet of elevation gain. This course covers two complete loops of the Perimeter and Tilly Trails plus additional terrain.
All trails are meticulously maintained by volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE), ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to support Rosaryville’s trail fund during registration.
The day begins early with the beginner race starting at 8:00 AM, followed by the base course at 9:00 AM. The sport and expert courses kick off at 10:00 AM. Each wave is designed to provide ample space for riders, ensuring a smooth start that caters to various skill levels.
Join us in celebrating mountain biking at Rosaryville State Park – an event not only about racing but also fostering community spirit and appreciation for the natural beauty of this special place.
