Creede 50/100

About the Event

The Creede 50/100 returns to Creede, Colorado on July 25th for its annual ultra endurance event featuring the challenging Creede 100 Miler and the less daunting but equally scenic Creede 50. Both races start and finish in this historic mining town at Basham Park, offering participants a unique blend of historical charm and rugged mountain terrain.
On race morning, runners gather on Loma Avenue where they will begin their journey through the picturesque streets of Creede before heading out into the surrounding San Juan Mountains. The atmosphere is one of camaraderie among competitors preparing for an intense day ahead, with temperatures in the mid-teens Celsius and clear skies providing ideal conditions to kick off the adventure.
The event has a rich history dating back several years, drawing runners from across the country who are drawn to Creede’s blend of mining heritage and natural beauty. Participants typically number around 100 for the full marathon distance, while more casual enthusiasts opt for the half-day challenge offered by the shorter race. The races support local initiatives aimed at preserving both the town's cultural history and its pristine wilderness areas.
The course itself takes runners through varied terrain that includes sections of single-track trails leading to breathtaking vistas above 12,000 feet elevation, as well as winding roads around North Clear Creek Falls. Runners can expect a mix of firm and slightly soft trail conditions throughout the route. The race starts and ends at Basham Park on Loma Avenue where aid stations will be located along key points providing essential hydration and fuel for participants.
Weather in Creede during July typically sees average temperatures hovering around 15 degrees Celsius, with daily highs rarely exceeding 24.5C and lows dropping to about 6.5C overnight. Humidity averages at around 50%, making it relatively comfortable despite the high UV index of 8 (Very High). With minimal rainfall expected and clear skies dominating for over thirteen hours each day, visibility will be excellent throughout the race.
The Creede 100 Miler offers a grueling but rewarding route through some of Colorado’s most stunning natural landscapes. Runners can also choose to tackle the more manageable yet equally scenic Creede 50.
