Darwen 'Roller Coaster' Half Marathon

The Darwen Half Marathon 2027 returns on Sunday, April 4th, at 10:00 AM, offering runners the chance to conquer one of Lancashire's most challenging and picturesque courses. Organized by the Darwen Dashers Running Club in collaboration with RunningSpec Events, this UKA-licensed event promises an exhilarating day for both seasoned athletes and casual enthusiasts.
Starting from Blacksnape Playing Fields on Blacksnape Road in Darwen, runners will embark on a 13.1-mile journey that traverses through the captivating landscapes of Darwen, Edgeworth, Chapeltown, and Egerton. Known affectionately as the "rollercoaster" half marathon, this undulating course features steep climbs totaling an impressive ascent of 1,411 feet before culminating in a gentle downhill finish back at Blacksnape Playing Fields.
Registration opens early on race day from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM, allowing participants ample time to prepare. The event venue offers comprehensive facilities including a café serving hot and cold food and drinks, toilets, changing rooms, and secure bag drop areas for runners' convenience.
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal and t-shirt upon crossing the line, while top male and female competitors in various age categories (V40 to V70) can look forward to special prizes. Event photographs will be available after the race, capturing memorable moments from this scenic run.
Hosted by Andy O'Sullivan MBE, the event encourages runners of all abilities to enjoy camaraderie with fellow participants while taking in breathtaking views along the way. Bone conduction headphones are permitted for those seeking an enhanced audio experience during their run.
