Welcome to the Deer Creek Half Marathon, an unforgettable trail running experience nestled along the serene shores of Deer Creek Reservoir. Scheduled for July 10th, 2027, this half marathon offers runners a picturesque journey through well-marked trails that wind around the reservoir's stunning lakeside and mountain vistas. The race begins at the Deer Creek Dam Trailhead, immediately placing participants on an inviting dirt trail with minimal obstacles. The course is designed to cater to all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned trail runners, ensuring everyone can enjoy the breathtaking scenery without worrying about getting lost. Each mile offers a new perspective of the lake and surrounding mountains, making every step rewarding. The elevation profile presents gradual climbs and descents that add variety but remain manageable for most runners. The course is divided into three segments: from start to Aid 1 (4.3 miles with +297/-358 ft), Aid 1 to Aid 2 (4.5 miles with +329/-329 ft), and Aid 2 to finish (4.3 miles with +358/-297 ft). The total elevation gain is approximately 970 feet, providing a challenging yet enjoyable run. Aid stations are strategically placed every 4.3 miles along the route, offering essential hydration options such as water and Gatorade, alongside energy-boosting snacks like Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, and other tasty treats from Costco that vary each race day (think Swedish Fish or Nerd Clusters). Participants will be guided by pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals who ensure the course is easy to follow after the initial quarter mile. The lack of a cutoff time encourages all runners to finish at their own pace, whether walking or running. Registration for this event offers several options: Early Registration ($60) ends January 10th, Regular Registration ($70) runs until June 9th, and Late Registration ($80) begins on June 10th. Packet pickup is available Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Sandy Salt Lake Running Store or race day starting at 5 am. Post-race amenities include a hearty breakfast featuring Great Harvest Bread's seasonal sweet breads and pumpkin chocolate chip bread, along with chocolate milk, orange juice, and bananas. Awards are given for overall male and female winners in custom topographic plaques from the race director, as well as age division medals (20+, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+). Race photos will be taken by Xotio Media and made available online for easy downloading using your bib number. No logos or watermarks mar the images; instead, participants are encouraged to share their race experience with friends and family. Awards ceremonies feature a backdrop for memorable post-race photographs alongside refreshments at the finish line area. Runners can also visit Revive Sport & Spine's booth to address any soreness or discomfort from the run. The Deer Creek Half Marathon is limited to 180 runners, ensuring an intimate and enjoyable race experience with ample trail space and parking. Volunteers are crucial for making this event happen; in return, they receive a free entry into future Happy Trails races plus access to finish line food. Join us at Deer Creek Dam Trailhead on July 10th for what promises to be one of the most scenic half marathons you'll ever experience.
