Join us for the third day of our Dun Holm 5 in 5 Days Challenge, taking place along the scenic River Wear in Durham. This year’s theme celebrates the rich heritage of Durham itself, with each participant receiving a medal adorned with the city's name and iconic landmarks. Whether you're looking to take on a new challenge or simply enjoy a leisurely run through beautiful scenery, this event offers something for everyone. You can sign up for all five days at once or participate individually in any day that suits your schedule. Date & Time: Saturday, May 29th, 2027 | Start time: 10:30 AM The race venue is the Durham Amateur Rowing Club located on Green Lane, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. Members of our club enjoy a significant discount on entry fees — up to £10 off for each event. Membership also guarantees you a spot in this popular run and comes with exclusive mini-medal pins at every event. Licensed by the Trail Running Association under UK Athletics rules, runners affiliated with any UK Athletics clubs receive an additional £2 reduction per race entry. Participants can choose their own distance within a 7-hour time limit, starting from a minimum of 3km. A full lap covers approximately 4.37 miles (or 7km), but due to potential course adjustments, the loop may be reduced to around 3.28 miles based on conditions. To comply with UK Athletics age restrictions and distance guidelines for younger runners, we have designated turn points at both 3k and 5k marks. The route winds along a picturesque stretch of the River Wear offering stunning views of Durham Cathedral. Fully signed, it requires no navigational skills from participants. Walkers are welcome to join in as well, making this event inclusive for all fitness levels. Upon completion of any distance starting at 3km, you will earn an exclusive themed medal celebrating your achievement. For those tackling half-marathon distances or beyond (including marathon and ultra options), we offer a range of commemorative pins reflecting each milestone covered. All finishers receive a generous goody bag filled with treats to enjoy after the run. Vegan runners can also look forward to a specially curated vegan option in their bags, ensuring everyone leaves satisfied. Our aid stations are well-stocked with an array of refreshments including drinks and snacks such as chips, cheese, fruits, cookies, and various vegan alternatives. If this event holds special significance for you — perhaps marking your 50th marathon or another milestone achievement — please inform us ahead of time to receive a personalized number plate commemorating the occasion. Facilities at the race HQ include toilets and changing areas. A bag drop area is available near the start/finish line, though it operates on an unattended basis; participants are responsible for their belongings left there. Car parking options in Durham’s city center and surrounding streets allow easy access to the venue without using the rowing club's limited space. Race day instructions will be emailed out a week before the event. Number pick-up takes place at registration on-site prior to the start time. Remember, headphones are allowed during the run, and we ask all participants to respect other path users while enjoying this scenic route through Durham’s historic landscape.
