The Batawa Fat Ass Trail Race, born in 2003 with just 23 enthusiasts, has blossomed into one of Ontario's premier trail running events. Spanning multiple distances and start times to accommodate all paces and preferences—ranging from a challenging 50km through to the family-friendly Big Bums Kids' 1km—it caters to runners and walkers alike. The race offers five distinct distances, each with its own unique starting time: - The grueling 50km begins at dawn, 7:30 am. - For those seeking a shorter but equally intense challenge, the Bad Ass 6-Hour event starts at 8:00 am. - The 24.5km distance commences at 9:15 am. - A mid-morning option is available with the 16.5km race starting at 10:30 am. - For those looking for a more relaxed start, the 10km and 7.5km runs begin respectively at noon and 12:30 pm. - The day concludes with the Big Bums Kids' 1km run, which starts sharp at 1:15 pm. In response to growing demand, the organizers have implemented a policy of no refunds for registrations; however, transfers between individuals are permitted until October 31st. Participants must register using an email address they wish to receive race communications on, as these details will be crucial for their smooth experience. For those eager to participate in this adventure, pre-order your Fat Ass shirt or Bad Ass swag by October 25th. Late registrants may not qualify for the exclusive items included with the 6-Hour Bad Ass entry fee. The course is a dynamic mix of terrains: expect rocky paths, muddy sections, and wide trails alongside single tracks, wooden bridges, and creek crossings. Runners must be prepared to face all conditions, from snow to sun. Headphones are not allowed; if you choose to wear them, keep the volume low for safety reasons. Aid stations will provide water, Tailwind, snacks, and essential support along both north and south loops, with a central station connecting them. The event is cupless—bring your own hydration system such as flasks or bladders. First aid services are provided by Neil Graham of Stat Med Canada, ensuring safety for all participants. Porta potties will be available at the start/finish line area to maintain hygiene standards. Parking is plentiful at Batawa Ski Hill with overflow options at the Community Centre; please respect local residents and avoid blocking driveways when parking on public streets. The race concludes without medals but celebrates top performers through awards for first, second, and third place male and female in each distance category. All Big Bums Kids' participants will receive a ribbon as a token of their participation. Join the Fat Ass Trail Race 2026 for an unforgettable adventure amidst nature's beauty and challenges!
