About the Event

The F.I.T King of the Hill returns to Cumberland, Rhode Island on May 22nd, inviting endurance enthusiasts from across New England to tackle a grueling yet rewarding challenge in one of the region's most scenic and historic settings. This inaugural event promises to be more than just a race; it’s an opportunity for runners and hikers alike to push their limits over Cumberland’s challenging terrain.
The heart of Cumberland pulses with anticipation as participants gather on that crisp May morning, ready to take on the King of the Hill course. Nestled along historic streets lined with old stone walls and century-old homes, this race sets a unique backdrop against rolling hills and verdant landscapes. The air is cool but not cold, carrying hints of spring’s awakening flora; the sun rises early at 5:30 AM to greet runners who start their journey at dawn.
This year marks the first edition of an event destined to become a local tradition. Runners from all walks of life will vie for titles as King and Queen of the Hill in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The inaugural race aims to raise funds for community health initiatives supported by F.I.T., ensuring that everyone can benefit from the spirit of competition and camaraderie fostered throughout the day.
The course itself winds through a network of trails known locally as the "Hill Loop," featuring steep ascents and descents over its 3.1-mile length, with participants tracking their progress on lap markers strategically placed every mile along the route. The start/finish line is located at Cumberland’s Town Hall, where aid stations offer water, energy drinks, and snacks to replenish runners as they tackle this demanding course.
Weather conditions for race day are expected to hover around 15 degrees Celsius with a slight chance of rain due to an average rainfall projection of 4.2mm. The wind will be noticeable but not overpowering at approximately 12 km/h, which may affect exposed skin and visibility slightly. Trail surface conditions remain firm yet soft underfoot, providing traction for both shoes and hiking boots while minimizing the risk of slips.
