FLATS Trail Half Marathon

For 15 years, the FLATS Trail Half Marathon has been captivating trail runners with its challenging yet rewarding course through Adair County's Forest Lake Area. This point-to-point race starts at Thousand Hills State Park Marina and finishes at Jackson Stables, offering a scenic journey that showcases some of Missouri’s most stunning natural beauty.
The 13.1-mile route winds along meticulously maintained trails, featuring an array of terrain elements such as rocks, roots, hills, and water crossings. Runners can expect to encounter seven well-stocked aid stations throughout the course, each manned by enthusiastic volunteers ready to cheer them on and provide essential hydration and nutrition.
The event is not just about the run; it’s also a celebration of community spirit. After crossing the finish line at Jackson Stables, participants are greeted with live music, an abundance of food options including pizza, fruit, drinks, and even stretching clinics led by local experts. The post-race festivities continue to highlight the race's commitment to runner satisfaction.
Custom age-group awards and prize money add a competitive edge to the event for top finishers in each category. First-place male, female, and nonbinary runners receive $150, with second place earning $75 and third place taking home $25. Course records can earn additional bonuses of up to $100.
The race supports trail maintenance and construction efforts by the Forest Lake Area Trail System through its fundraising initiatives, ensuring that future generations will enjoy these trails as much as current participants do today.
Registration policies are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for transfers or credits until two weeks before the event. For those who recently became parents, a special deferral option ensures they can return to racing without any hassle.
On race day, pre-race packet pickup is available at ATSU Thompson Campus Center on Friday from noon to 7 p.m., and again at the Marina starting Saturday morning at 7 a.m. The shuttle service will transport runners back to their cars after crossing the finish line for those who need it.
