The Plough and Harroween 5 mile night trail run

Ghosts and ghouls gather for an eerie night adventure through Friston Forest's countryside trails. The Plough & Harrow hosts this spooky 5-mile run, where participants must navigate the route using Strava GPX on their phones or watches in reverse direction of the usual Friston Forest 5 course.
Registration begins at 6:30 PM inside the cozy pub, with a mass start promptly at 7:00 PM. The trail winds through dark forests, farm tracks, and downlands under the glow of headlamps, making it an ideal setting for Halloween-themed fancy dress. Runners are encouraged to wear their most creative costumes; those who stand out will be rewarded with a post-run dessert by our panel of amateur judges.
However, non-participants in costume face a 5-minute time penalty—a minute per mile missed! Non-affiliated England Athletics or Trail Running Association runners must pay an additional £2 levy. The route is designed for self-navigation and includes numerous hills that will keep you warm throughout the run. Tail-runners ensure no one gets lost, providing peace of mind.
Participants are advised to bring headlamps, mobile phones with ICE contacts, and trail running shoes suitable for dark conditions. Warm layers and extra provisions like clothing or snacks are essential due to varying weather along different parts of the course.
Upon finishing, runners can collect a beer, wine, cola, coffee, or another beverage by handing in their race numbers behind the bar. All participants receive an official timed run and an impressive Halloween-themed finisher's medal. The Plough & Harrow offers pre-order options for food before setting off on your adventure.
This event is more about fun than competition, emphasizing enjoyment over speed as runners explore the eerie beauty of Friston Forest under moonlit skies.
