Froggy Mountain Adventures is sponsoring a winter 100 miler race on Feb 26, as a fundraiser for the veterans organization, 22toomany. Rosie of Froggy Mt lost her son Dexter, a US Marine, to mental health and suicide Feb 25th 2018, and has been running 100 100s to raise awareness. There aren't many 100 milers available to run in February, so we're hoping there might be a few die-hards out there willing to brave the cold and possible ice/snow in support of military and veteran suicide awareness. This event is changing locations this year to the private property of the home of the Froggy Mountain 100 with its 50k of vert, however we have a new trail underway that will be an approx 5-8 mile out and back on switchbacks, a completely new trail that utilizes our deer trails with an estimated 10-15k feet of climb on mildly technical singletrack with some roots and logs to step over. We will have an aid station with some hot food and we encourage runners to bring a favorite race treat to help keep costs down and maximize our donations. Race will have a generous 48 hour cutoff and runners and crew will have access to heated indoor space for bathrooms and cooking/ napping, plus a drop bag at the mountain top. Feb temps can be mild 40s or 50s but snow or freezing rain or frigid wind chills are always a possibility. Cost includes a lowkey buckle inscribed with Dexters "warrior" artwork, depicting his victory over his demons & $22 from each registration will be donated to #22toomany. Register before Feb 1 for a buckle at the run, otherwise it'll be mailed afterwards. Pacers allowed after 50 miles. Backup headlamp, hot hands, multiple dry layers, warm coat/puffer, wind or thermal pants layer, waterproof mittens, winter hats, buff or mask, mylar poncho and trekking poles are encouraged!

Where to stay

We have campsites and running spring water if you're into car or tent camping in winter, here at Froggy Mountain Adventures. Otherwise there's a couple affordable hotels & air b&bs in nearby Galax.

Race is located at 166 Old Quaker Road in Galax VA. Bibs are available for pickup from 4-6 pm Thurs night or 4:30 am Fri morning
