The Garda Trentino Trail is a major international trail running event held in the scenic northern region of Lake Garda, Italy. Scheduled for May 15–17, 2026, the 11th edition offers a variety of distances that connect three distinct alpine lakes: Garda, Tenno, and Ledro. The event is celebrated for its technical mountain paths and panoramic views of the Trentino peaks.
The event caters to a wide spectrum of athletes, ranging from ultra-endurance mountain runners to those preferring shorter scenic routes. Registration for the 2026 edition opened on July 1, 2025.
| Race | Estimated Distance | Focus Area |
|---|---|---|
| GTT Extra 150 | 150 km | Grand Ultra across the Trentino mountains. |
| GTT Extra 100 | 100 km | High-altitude endurance trail. |
| Garda Trentino Trail | 60-65 km | The classic route connecting the three lakes. |
| Ledro Trail | 40-42 km | Centered around the pristine Lake Ledro. |
| Tenno Trail | 28-30 km | Focusing on the turquoise Lake Tenno. |
| Garda Trentino Castle Run | 11-15 km | Historical route through local fortifications. |
The race headquarters is located in Arco (Trento), specifically in Piazza III Novembre. The territory is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of "Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria." Terrain includes steep technical ascents, mule tracks from World War I, and flowing descents with constant views of Lake Garda.
The event emphasizes environmental protection through its "Ambiente" pillar, discouraging single-use plastics and promoting the protection of the local ecosystem. In mid-May, the Garda area enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate. While lakeside temperatures average 18°C, runners on the higher mountain passes reaching over 1,500m should expect significantly cooler conditions and potential wind.
The event is organized by Garda Trentino Trail ASD. A dedicated sports village is set up in Arco, serving as the hub for bib collection and partner showcases. The race draws a significant percentage of its participants from Germany, Austria, and Northern Europe, given the region's status as a top-tier outdoor tourism destination.
Garda Trentino Trail showcases the regional culture of the Sarca Valley. The Castle Run highlights the medieval heritage of the area, passing through the shadow of the Castle of Arco. The event relies on a strong network of local partners and volunteers to manage the complex safety requirements of the 150 km and 100 km ultra-distances.
