The Ghastly Gorge Grind returns to the scenic Wentworth Valley this year, offering runners an exhilarating and improved trail experience that promises to be nothing short of epic. Set against the backdrop of one of Nova Scotia's most stunning landscapes, the course features two brand-new trails never before used in races, ensuring a unique journey for participants. The loop measures approximately 12.5 kilometers with nearly 700 meters of elevation gain, presenting both challenging uphill climbs and thrilling downhill descents. The route begins at The Barn, taking runners on an adventure through the Crazy Creek and Ghastly Gorge trails towards Shunpike. From there, participants will traverse Pussy Willow Trail over a picturesque bridge across Horse Pasture River before ascending to Hart Peak via Northern Hart Trail. At the summit of Hart Peak, racers are rewarded with breathtaking views as they descend along the F-Bomb trail—a fast and exhilarating downhill section—and then ascend Ho Chi Minh back to Shunpike. The course continues through School House and Illuminati trails before finishing on Barclay Road, leading runners back to The Barn. In addition to the full 12.5-kilometer loop, a shorter option called "The Ghastly Gorge Giggle" is available for beginner trail runners and hikers at approximately 6 kilometers in length. This route offers similar scenic beauty but with less vertical elevation and a more manageable distance. Upon crossing the finish line, participants are greeted by The Barn where they receive a complimentary drink ticket (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) along with food options available for purchase. It’s an event that celebrates community spirit while supporting local causes such as the Fire Department through planned donations. The Ghastly Gorge Grind is more than just a race; it's an immersive experience in nature, connecting runners to some of Nova Scotia's most captivating terrain and fostering camaraderie among participants. Please note: Registration for this event includes no refunds or deferrals, so consider purchasing runner’s insurance upon signup. Join us at the Ghastly Gorge Grind and embrace a day filled with adventure, stunning vistas, and friendly competition in one of Canada's most beautiful settings.
