Glimmerglass Triathlon

The 2026 Glimmerglass Triathlon invites athletes to embark on an exhilarating journey across land, water, and sky against the picturesque backdrop of Glimmerglass State Park and Otsego Lake. This year's edition promises a thrilling challenge that combines three distinct disciplines: open-water paddleboarding, cycling through serene countryside roads, and trail running.
The race begins with a 2-mile swim in the protected waters of Hyde Bay within Glimmerglass State Park. Competitors will glide across calm lake waters, surrounded by panoramic views of Otsego Lake’s shimmering expanse. Participants are encouraged to use SUPs (stand-up paddleboards) this year, adding an innovative twist to traditional triathlon formats. Safety is paramount; all racers must wear life jackets and follow specific equipment guidelines.
Upon exiting the water at the beachfront parking area, athletes will transition swiftly into their cycling gear for a 18-mile bike ride that winds through quiet secondary roads north of Glimmerglass State Park. The route features rolling hills and fast stretches, offering both scenic beauty and challenging terrain. Cyclists can expect smooth transitions as bikes are staged near the lakefront pavilion.
The race concludes with a 5K run through the lush trails of Glimmerglass State Park. Runners will cross the historic Hyde Hall footbridge before finishing amid cheering spectators on the picturesque lakeshore. The course showcases some of upstate New York’s most stunning natural scenery, making this triathlon not just an athletic challenge but also a visual feast.
For those who prefer to share the experience with friends or colleagues, relay options are available for teams of three or four members. Each team member can take on one segment—paddleboarding, cycling, or running—turning the event into a collaborative and social affair.
