Gone Loco Ultra 2026, set to take place on February 14th in Athens, Tennessee, invites runners of all levels to explore the scenic Eureka Trail. This year marks an exciting addition with the introduction of a new 50K distance, offering participants a chance to establish their mark and qualify for The Cherokee Ultra.
The race begins at dawn with staggered start times: the challenging 11 Miler starts at 9 AM followed by the grueling yet rewarding 50K beginning an hour earlier. Both distances offer unique challenges and experiences along this flat, fast trail that winds through lush woodlands and rural landscapes, connecting Athens to Englewood.
Athletes will traverse a fine mesh gravel path reminiscent of the Virginia Creeper Trail, with occasional stretches on backcountry roads adding variety to the route. The Eureka Trail is not only scenic but also family-friendly; cyclists are welcome to accompany runners for much of the course, creating an engaging and supportive atmosphere.
The 50K distance, now certified as a marathon (TN25001MS), promises to be particularly exciting with its potential for new records. The race’s flat terrain makes it ideal for setting personal bests, though participants will have until 6 PM on February 14th to complete the course—a generous window that accommodates those who might need a bit more time.
Aid stations are strategically placed at both ends of the loop and in Englewood. Hoist Hydration is the primary sponsor for fluid needs along with Butt Napkins, ensuring runners stay hydrated throughout their journey. The event also features live coverage on YouTube, offering real-time updates, interviews, and tracking as racers push through to the finish line.
For those interested in a unique challenge, rucking—a form of hiking or walking while carrying weight—has been reintroduced for this year’s 11 Miler with specific weight requirements. This division adds an extra layer of difficulty but also excitement, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
Registration is limited to just 200 participants, ensuring each runner receives personalized attention and support throughout the event. Swag includes medals, shirts, and awards for top male and female finishers in both overall categories and age groups.
