This unique endurance challenge takes place within the picturesque grounds of Gosfield School, offering participants a blend of scenic beauty and competitive spirit.
The race format is simple yet demanding: each runner must complete a 4.167-mile loop exactly every hour until all but one competitor drops out or fails to start their lap on time. The event begins promptly at 9:00 AM when the first lap commences, setting off an intense and strategic battle of stamina and pacing.
A key feature is the "Horn of Happiness," which signals each new starting point every hour. Should a runner miss this crucial moment by not being in position to start their next loop on time, they will be disqualified from the competition. This relentless format tests participants' mental fortitude as much as it does physical endurance.
Runners and teams are invited to set up camp near race headquarters starting Friday evening (August 25th), providing ample opportunity for rest and preparation before the event begins early Saturday morning. The grounds offer a range of amenities, including changing rooms, showers, toilets, Wi-Fi access, and charging stations for devices like torches or phones.
Competitors will also enjoy a well-stocked aid station with plenty of hot and cold drinks, fruits, sweets, and snacks to keep them fueled throughout the day. There are tables available where runners can leave their personal items if they don’t have support crew members present.
