Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the heart of Ossola Valley for an unforgettable cycling experience. The Ossola Cycling Team is proud to present its grand project: the Granfondo Diablo, a remarkable amateur cycling race designed to celebrate the beauty and history of this captivating region.
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Toce River valley, the event pays homage to one of Italy's most iconic cyclists, Marco Pantani. The route follows in the footsteps of legendary climbs that have captivated audiences for decades, offering participants a unique blend of scenic vistas and challenging terrain.
On September 12, 2027, the Cicloscalata Valdo-Riale kicks off with a tribute ride covering approximately 14 kilometers, commemorating Pantani's legacy. The following day, on Sunday, September 13, 2027, cyclists will embark on an epic journey through the Ossola Valley as part of the Granfondo Diablo.
The main event features a single route stretching between 100 and 120 kilometers with around 2000 meters of elevation gain. The course begins in Valdo before descending into the picturesque plains of Ossola, passing through charming villages such as Domodossola, Villadossola, Piedimulera, Vogogna, Beura, Trontano, Masera, Crevoladossola, Crodo, and Baceno. The route then ascends back to higher elevations before reaching the finish line in Riale.
Throughout this journey, participants will encounter stunning landscapes and architectural marvels that define Ossola's rich cultural heritage. From towering hydroelectric dams built at the beginning of the 20th century to the ingenious designs by architect Piero Portaluppi, including his famous Albergo della Cascata del Toce and Wagristoratore near Passo San Giacomo in Alta Valle Formazza.
The race promises not only a challenging ride but also an enriching cultural experience. After crossing the finish line on Sunday, cyclists are invited to partake in a pasta party hosted by the enthusiastic team behind Formazza Events, adding another layer of local flavor and camaraderie to this already memorable event.
