The course begins on the AZT single-track trail, weaving its way through picturesque aspens before ascending towards Upper Volcano. The final stretch leads you up to 11,500 feet above sea level at the gondola station, providing panoramic views of Kachina Peak Wilderness and beyond. This vertical ascent totals a remarkable gain of 4300 feet, making it not just a physical challenge but also an inspiring spiritual journey.
Preparation is key for this event; expect to be pushed out of your comfort zone as you tackle the demanding terrain. The race day starts early at Fort Valley Lodge with runners setting off at 6:00 AM sharp. With a cut-off time of five hours, ensure you are well-prepared and fueled for the climb.
