About the Event
The Shapotou Half Marathon starts 7:30 AM on Sunday, August 30 at the municipal plaza in Shapotou District, Zhongwei, Ningxia, with a 10,000-runner cap for its single half-marathon (21.0975km) distance. Registration opens May 27 at 14:00. Every race pack this year includes a whole Zhongwei selenium-sand watermelon -- sweet, juicy, and heavy enough to need its own bag -- plus a dedicated melon spoon, a summer treat unique to the region. Zhongwei sits in west-central Ningxia at the head of the Yellow River's first great bend, on the border of Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, and Gansu. First held in 2024, this third edition runs a near-zero-gradient flat course considered one of the fastest in northwest China, passing Shapotou's east-west avenue, the scenic canal corridor, Shapotou Water Town, and Xiangshan Lake National Wetland Park -- a route that shows off the district's "half city desert, half city water" landscape.
