Experience the exhilarating challenge of the Iron Legs Mountain Races, where runners navigate rugged terrain alongside Moose Mountain. This event offers three distances—100 kilometers, 50 miles, and 60 kilometers—that wind through diverse landscapes packed with steep climbs and breathtaking vistas. The shorter 25-kilometer race starts later in the evening, offering a twilight run that highlights the mountain's dramatic silhouettes.
All participants will gather at Gords Running Store in Calgary for packet pickup from 4 to 6 PM on Thursday, ensuring you're ready for your adventure come Friday morning. Start times are set for early dawn: all three longer races begin simultaneously at 6 AM sharp, while runners opting for the shorter route take off at a more leisurely pace of 8:30 PM.
The course is renowned for its technical single-track trails that weave through dense forests and open alpine meadows. Expect significant elevation changes throughout each distance, testing your endurance as you ascend to the peak of Moose Mountain before descending back into the valley below. The race not only challenges runners physically but also rewards them with panoramic views at every turn.
