The Mahogany Beach 2 Beach Open Water Swim returns to Calgary, Alberta on August 8th, 2026. On a crisp morning in early August, temperatures hover around 17 degrees Celsius with a slight breeze at nine kilometres per hour. The air feels invigorating as participants gather by the sandy shoreline of Mahogany Lake's Main Beach. Spectators line the route between the two main beaches—waving and cheering for swimmers who take on the crystal-clear waters. This event has been running since its inception, with over 250 participants annually. It is dedicated to raising funds for local scholarships that support young athletes from the community. The swim offers a unique blend of challenge and accessibility: while newcomers can enjoy the experience, seasoned swimmers push their pace across this stunning venue. The Mahogany Beach 2 Beach Open Water Swim covers one kilometre each way between Main Beach and West Beach. Buoys guide the course, ensuring safety as lifeguards and safety kayaks provide constant support. The finish line at Main Beach is a true celebration with energy and encouragement for all swimmers who complete their laps. The race also offers two distinct distance options: Mahogany Residents can sign up for one kilometre for $45.18 or the open water swim for $55.94 over the same route. Athletes must be 10 years old on race day, with no maximum age limit; they should comfortably complete a 1500m pool swim. Participants can park at Main Beach and walk to West Beach (located at 10 Mahogany Blvd SE), where volunteers will direct them along the marked path. Alternatively, athletes may be dropped off at West Beach but must ensure that there is no parking in the lot for smooth traffic flow. Athletes receive a bag at West Beach which they can drop before starting; this will be delivered to Main Beach later. Awards are given for top men and women across several age groups: 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and over 80. Additionally, the fastest swimmer of each gender who lives in Mahogany will receive unique awards.
