Nestled in the picturesque mountains of South East Wyoming, the Jelm Mountain Run offers an exhilarating and challenging 10-mile trek through some of nature's most stunning landscapes. This out-and-back course begins at an elevation of 7600 feet near Woods Landing and ascends to a breathtaking peak over 9600 feet above sea level atop Jelm Mountain, featuring the Infrared Observatory. The route is entirely on well-maintained jeep roads with a total ascent exceeding 2000 feet. Participants will experience both steep climbs and rewarding descents as they navigate through this rugged terrain. The race organizers advise runners to come prepared for all weather conditions, from crisp autumn days to potentially snowy or even blizzard-like scenarios. Aid stations are strategically placed halfway up the climb and at the summit of Jelm Mountain, offering water and light snacks. Runners should bring their own hydration systems to minimize waste and ensure they stay hydrated throughout this demanding course. The race begins early on September 12th with pre-race bib pickup from 7:30 AM onwards. Registration is open until midnight on September 10 through UltraSignup, offering a discounted rate for HPH Club members or Partner Club Members. Race day registration will also be available but at an increased price of $70 (cash/check), excluding the hoodie option which can save you $20 if not desired. The entry fee includes a Jelm Mountain Run hoodie. After crossing the finish line, runners are invited to stay and enjoy the scenic surroundings or venture into nearby Woods Landing Resort for refreshments. Alternatively, head over to Laramie where you'll find plenty of local attractions like historic sites and vibrant murals adorning downtown streets. Proceeds from this event benefit the Albany County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team, a dedicated group of volunteers who provide critical support during emergencies in the region.
