Join the John Brown Time Trial Series, where racing and peanuts come together to grow cycling in Kansas! Spanning four Thursday evenings—June 11th, July 23rd, August 20th, and September 10th—the series caters to every cyclist's preference. Test your skills on a fast, flat 5-mile course that follows the Kansas River bottoms road northwest of DeSoto. The route offers scenic views as you race from west to east. Registration opens at 5:45 PM, with races kicking off after 6:30 PM. Participants can enjoy two time trials per event or opt for a single race if preferred. For those looking to push their limits further during the summer months, a third race might be available. However, remember there are no facilities on-site; take care of any needs before starting. The John Brown Time Trial Emporium is known for its inclusivity and creativity in organizing categories. Men and women can compete across various divisions: Open, Cat 4, Cat 5, Masters 40+, 50+, and 60+. Special categories include the First Timer Category (for your first USAC race), Tri Category (USAT license holders only), Aero, Modern Merckx, Retro Merckx, Single Speed, Duo, Coed Duo, and Cheater Class. Bikes are subject to promoter inspection for fairness. Race intervals range from 30 to 60 seconds based on the number of participants. After each wave, a brief break allows you to adjust gear or bikes before racing again. While not mandatory, racing twice is free. The event also offers three race types: Aero (legal USA Cycling equipment), Modern Merckx (aero frames with limited wheels), and Retro Merckx (round tubes only). Single Speed riders get an added bonus for wearing a wool jersey. Prizes come in the form of Revolution Racing Pint glasses, awarded to winners in each category. These are randomly filled at the end-of-season beer party! The series also includes a U25 race with discounted entry fees and requires USA Cycling One Day or Annual License for youth participants under 25 years old. For directions, park at DeSoto’s Riverfest Park located northwest of downtown DeSoto near W 79th St. Contact Jim Whittaker, the promoter, via email [email protected] or visit www.revolution-racing.com with any questions.
