Junior Life Guard Tournament Registration: Spring Lake
About the Event
Nestled along the picturesque coastlines of Pennsylvania and Union Avenues, as well as Salem Avenue beach access at South End Pavilion, awaits an exhilarating day dedicated to junior lifeguards. This annual gathering is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of teamwork, flexibility, and the spirit of camaraderie among young water enthusiasts. Registration opens early on race morning at 8am sharp with late registrants paying $35 via credit card only, while those who pre-register by July 1st enjoy an exclusive "early bird" rate of $30. Early sign-ups also secure a commemorative t-shirt and receive a $5 discount—a small but significant perk for the eager participants. The event unfolds across multiple locations along Pennsylvania Avenue and Union Avenue beaches for younger competitors, while older lifeguards take on challenges at Salem Avenue beach. Activities range from water events to relay races that test endurance and coordination. The Iron Guard Relay is one highlight where each team of three—a swimmer, a runner, and a paddler—must work seamlessly together without predetermined start times. Teams are required to include both male and female members marked with their home town initials on the left shoulder and an “A” on the right for identification. Those arriving solo will find assistance from instructors in forming teams on site if needed. Competitors can expect a dynamic day filled with diverse challenges, including distance runs and beach flag events that are open to all participants. The competition is divided into specific age groups: U19 (ages 15-18), A Division (ages 14-15), B Division (ages 12-13), and C Division (ages 9-11). Each group faces unique tests tailored to their skill levels, with the option for older competitors to challenge themselves in higher divisions. To cap off a day of intense competition, all junior guards are treated to pizza during lunchtime. Additional snacks can be purchased from stands located along the boardwalk at South End Pavilion where families and friends gather to cheer on participants. This event is designed not only as a test of athletic prowess but also an opportunity for growth in teamwork, honesty, and sportsmanship among young lifeguards. It’s more than just another race; it's a stepping stone towards becoming well-rounded watermen capable of handling any situation the ocean may throw their way.
