The Kollective emerges as a unique ride series that celebrates connection, community, and the shared commitment to safer roads across Ontario. Born from an enduring partnership between The Share the Road Cycling Coalition (formed by Eleanor McMahon after her husband Greg's tragic death) and Racer Sportif—a relationship initiated in 2006 following Sgt. Greg Stobbart’s fatal accident—this series aims to foster a deeper engagement among cyclists, advocates, and partners. The inaugural Kollective event is set for September 20th at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Halton Hills, marking the 20th anniversary of the first community ride honoring Greg. This significant milestone not only commemorates his memory but also reflects on the substantial progress made towards safer cycling environments through legislative reforms and enhanced road safety campaigns. The Kollective’s primary objective is to offer a high-quality riding experience while simultaneously strengthening the social fabric within Ontario's cycling community. By thoughtfully organizing rides throughout the summer, it provides ample opportunities for riders to connect with one another and delve more deeply into the broader network of cyclists, advocates, and partners. A key aspect of this initiative lies in its efforts to welcome a new generation of cyclists. Through an accessible and inclusive entry point, The Kollective introduces younger participants to the rich culture and community that surrounds cycling while aligning them with the core values guiding Share the Road and its partners. This series not only celebrates where Ontario's cycling journey has been but also helps shape its future. The event promises a blend of scenic routes, engaging social activities, and meaningful interactions, all set against the backdrop of Mattamy National Cycling Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities. Riders can expect a seamless experience that combines safety, camaraderie, and a shared vision for safer roads.
