Kansas Half Marathon & 5K

Experience the enchanting autumn scenery of downtown Lawrence, Kansas as you embark on the 18th edition of the Kansas Half Marathon & 5K on November 1st, 2026. The race kicks off at Douglas County Courthouse Park, just a stone's throw from the University of Kansas campus, setting the stage for an exhilarating journey through history and nature.
Race morning is anticipated to bring comfortable conditions with temperatures around 7 degrees Celsius and mild humidity levels of about 69 percent. A gentle breeze adds a refreshing touch to the crisp autumn air, creating ideal running weather as you traverse the city's parks and streets. The USATF-certified course ensures fair play and accurate timing.
This event has been an annual tradition since 2008, dedicated to community support by offering access to affordable healthcare services in Kansas. This year marks a significant milestone, continuing its commitment to bringing people together through sport and charity.
Runners can choose between the 5K or half marathon distance, each presenting unique landscapes. The course weaves along University Avenue before turning west towards Haskell Indian Nations University. It then returns via scenic routes back into downtown Lawrence, with notable landmarks like Jayhawk Stadium visible throughout your run. Minimal elevation changes and a smooth surface make it suitable for both seasoned athletes and newcomers.
Aid stations are strategically placed to ensure runners stay hydrated and fueled as needed. The half marathon includes a brief detour through nearby neighborhoods before returning, while the 5K runs more centrally within the city limits.
Race day weather is expected to be mild with daytime temperatures ranging from 4 degrees Celsius at night to 13.9 degrees during the daytime, feeling slightly cooler due to humidity and wind speeds averaging around 12 km/h. Precipitation is unlikely; however, runners should prepare for a few scattered clouds that might add some moisture.

Bibs can be picked up at Lawrence City Hall from October 24th to November 1st between 9 AM and 7 PM on weekdays or during race morning hours until runners start checking in. Participants must bring a printed or digital copy of their registration confirmation as proof of entry. The half marathon is open to participants who are at least 16 years old.
