Welcome to the picturesque Keene Pumpkin Cyclocross Race, an annual celebration of cycling and community held on Sunday, October 5th. This year marks its eleventh edition, taking place at Surry Mountain Recreation Area just outside Keene in Southwest New Hampshire. Nestled among breathtaking hillside vistas, this race is known for its peak foliage setting during the autumn season. The course offers a diverse landscape that challenges both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike. It begins with a paved starting grid before winding through flowing sections of the trail, making use of run-ups, sand patches, and technical barriers. A wooded single-track section adds an extra layer of excitement, while a fun descent keeps riders on their toes. Keene Pumpkin Cross is part of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) CX race series, bringing together collegiate racers from across New England. For 2025, it also hosts one of eight races in the NESCX Single Speed Series, adding an extra layer of competition and excitement for single-speed enthusiasts. The event is designed to be inclusive with a separate junior field, featuring three age groupings for both boys and girls. A longer race distance awaits juniors looking for a bigger challenge, while entry fees are halved compared to the senior fields. Additionally, there's a Kids Fun Race available for younger participants, typically 10 years or under, ensuring everyone can enjoy the day. Proceeds from this event support the local Keene High School Nordic Ski Team, making it not just about cycling but also community involvement and giving back. As you participate in this race, know that your efforts contribute to a worthy cause while enjoying beautiful surroundings and friendly competition. Follow us on social media for all the latest updates: - Facebook - X (Twitter) - Instagram The venue opens at 7:00 AM, with pre-registration starting at 8:00 AM. Day-of registration is available but comes with a $10 fee. Second race entries are also an option for just $10 more. Novice one-day licenses can be purchased during the event for $15 and cover single-day racing needs. Experienced racers must purchase these through USA Cycling online. Masters fields, including men's and women's categories starting at age 40 in five-year increments, will have separate starts with a minute gap between them. All USAC rules apply, mandating that participants wear approved helmets for safety reasons. Payouts include $250 for the top three places across Men’s and Women’s races, ensuring competitive racing from start to finish. NH State Cyclocross Championships are also hosted here this year, offering gold, silver, and bronze medals in various age categories. Be sure to check eligibility criteria if you're aiming for state championship honors. Join us at Surry Mountain Recreation Area for what promises to be a memorable day of cycling among nature’s splendor.
