About the Event
The Kirkintilloch Aquathlon, hosted by Glasgow Triathlon Club and governed by Triathlon Scotland, is set to take place on September 17th, 2026. This exciting multi-sport event caters to a wide range of participants across various age groups, from young athletes in the TriStar Start/1/2/3 categories (aged 8-14) and Youth category (ages 15-16), to adult competitors aged 17 and above. The Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre serves as the heart of this event, providing a safe and welcoming environment for all participants. The day kicks off with registration at around 08:00 AM in the leisure centre lobby; doors close promptly at 08:45 AM to ensure a smooth start. A comprehensive race briefing is scheduled for 09:00 AM before heats begin, starting with the youngest competitors and progressing through age groups. Each participant will compete in two segments: an initial pool swim followed by a run around Kirkintilloch Park directly adjacent to the leisure centre. The specific distances vary depending on your age group: - TriStar Start (8 years old): 50m swim, 600m run - TriStar 1 & TriStar 2: Longer swims and runs as athletes progress in age. - Youth Category (ages 15-16): A challenging 400m swim followed by a 3km run. - Adults (Go-Tri & Experienced): The adult category features the same distances but is split into two heats based on experience levels. Participants are required to select their race category upon entry, choosing between Female and Open categories. This classification ensures fair competition in accordance with British Triathlon's Transgender Policy, effective from January 1st, 2023. The day promises a supportive atmosphere for athletes of all abilities, including those who may have disabilities or special needs; organizers are available to discuss accommodations prior to the event date. All participants will receive an electronic chip timing system and enjoy post-race refreshments upon completion. Additionally, top three finishers in each age group will be awarded unique trophies. Event photographers will capture memorable moments throughout the day at no cost to participants who consent during sign-up for their photos to potentially appear publicly on social media or marketing materials. Entry details must include an accurate estimated swim time and correct date of birth to ensure proper lane placement and category allocation. Any changes can be made up until race day, provided they are communicated in advance. Registration is open now with a 50% refund available for withdrawals prior to August 23rd, 2026; no refunds will be issued thereafter.
