Join us for an invigorating day at the Sainte-Barbe Challenges, set against the backdrop of Hénin-Beaumont, nestled within the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France. This charming town offers a diverse landscape featuring waterways, countryside vistas, and quaint villages, creating a picturesque setting for participants. The event caters to all fitness levels with various disciplines: running, cycling, and walking. On December 6th, runners can choose between a scenic 5km or 10km route that winds through the heart of Hénin-Beaumont. Temperatures will be chilly, ranging from 2° to 8°C, so dress warmly with neck warmers, beanies, and gloves. Cyclists have two loop options: a 20km MTB or Gravel ride and an extended 40km route designed for those who enjoy longer rides. Both courses feature well-prepared terrain that showcases the region's beauty. For those looking to explore at a more leisurely pace, there’s also a family-friendly 6km hike. The event hub is Espace François Mitterrand, where all routes begin and end. As you embark on your chosen activity, prepare to encounter the serene Parc du Bord des Eaux with its expansive lake or take in the elevated views from Terril des Pommiers, offering a refreshing break amidst nature’s beauty. After the race, Hénin-Beaumont invites visitors to explore more of Hauts-de-France. The historic Saint-Martin Church, listed as a French historical monument since 2003, stands proudly in town and is worth a visit for its architectural significance. A short drive west leads you to Lens, known for its rich history and modern city center rebuilt after World War II. Eastward lies Douai, offering numerous monuments and sites of interest. For food enthusiasts, the region offers culinary delights like flamiche with maroilles—a must-try local specialty—and sweet stuffed waffles that are a delightful treat to finish your day perfectly. Whether you’re here for the challenge or simply to enjoy the scenery, the Sainte-Barbe Challenges promise an unforgettable experience in northern France.
