Where sweeping mountain-and-sea scenery meets the legend of Journey to the West, this race runs October 30-31 at Xinghai Lake Park, Haizhou District, Lianyungang, Jiangsu, with "Journey West" 168km, "Mountain and Sea" 100km, and "Great Sage" 50km categories. Registration is first-come, first-served. The 168km "Ultimate Challenge" (~6,000m gain, ITRA 6 points) starts Oct 30 5:00 with a 48-hour cutoff -- a day-and-night battle through the core mountain-and-sea course, reserved for hardcore ultra runners. The 100km "Elite Journey" (~4,000m gain, ITRA 5 points) starts 5:00 with a 24-hour cutoff, a condensed take on the highlights with both sunrise and sunset along the way. The 50km "Rising Star Summit" (~2,500m gain, ITRA 3 points) starts 5:00 with a 12-hour cutoff, an accessible intro to the theme suited to trail newcomers and veterans looking for something lighter. Lianyungang is Jiangsu's only true mountain-and-sea city and the inspirational source of the classic novel Journey to the West -- Jiangsu's largest island, winding cliffside boardwalks, and reef-and-wave coastline where every stride is framed by sea and sky.
