Marking its 201st anniversary, the S&DR railway invites runners to join the Locomotion Charity Run, an event honoring Northeast Engineering history while raising funds for vital causes. Participants can choose between two scenic routes: a 10-mile run and a more manageable 5-mile option. The longer route begins at Locomotion in Eaglescliffe, taking runners through Preston Park before heading onto Teesdale Way. The journey continues to the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton, where participants will retrace part of the historic railway track back towards Eaglescliffe for an engaging mix of road and trail running. This 10-mile course offers a unique blend of urban landscapes and natural beauty. For those preferring a shorter distance, the 5-mile route starts at the S&DR Ticket Office in Stockton and follows Teesdale Way through Preston Park before ending back at Locomotion in Eaglescliffe. Both courses feature stretches along the original railway line, providing runners with an immersive experience of the region's rich engineering heritage. The event honors Willie Maddren, a legendary footballer who played for Middlesbrough FC from 1968 to 1979 and is remembered fondly as a Boro legend. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in his memory, ensuring that participants contribute positively to society while enjoying their run. Sponsors like Grand Central Railways, Northern Rail, and TransPennine Rail have generously supported this event by providing free car parking at Eaglescliffe Station for all competitors and supporters. Additionally, a special offer extends rail travel benefits to 5-mile runners with complimentary tickets from Eaglescliffe to Thornaby, allowing them to start their race near Stockton. All participants will receive medals upon completion of the run, while top male and female finishers in both distances will be awarded trophies. A raffle sponsored by Grand Central and TransPennine offers a chance for lucky winners to enjoy first-class rail tickets as well as an exclusive tour of the House of Commons with local MP Matt Vickers. The event is organized by Locomotion Hotel, Eaglescliffe, alongside key partners such as The Rotary Club, Lucy Pittaway LTD, The Coop, One Stop, and Cleveland Police. With registration opening at 9:00 am for both distances on race day, the run starts promptly at 10:30 am. Join us in celebrating Northeast Engineering history while making a meaningful contribution to important charitable causes through this unique running experience. The event promises an unforgettable journey through scenic landscapes and historical landmarks, offering runners a chance to connect with local heritage while supporting worthy charities.
