Long Haul Course Preview

The Long Haul Course Preview takes place on December 5th in Lakeland, Florida this year as part of the LH Background series. The event is an opportunity for runners to join Andy & Amy for a course preview and training run ahead of next year's LH100 race scheduled for early spring.
Located at Colt Creek State Park, participants can expect a trail setting that winds through dense woods with clearings offering glimpses of open fields scattered throughout the route. The park is known for its natural beauty and challenging terrain, making it an ideal location to train for longer endurance races like the LH100. On race morning, temperatures are expected to range between 50°F (10°C) and 64°F (18°C), with low humidity levels providing a comfortable running environment.
The Long Haul Course Preview has been held annually since its inception in 2019 as part of the broader LH series events. It serves not only as a training run but also as an opportunity for runners to familiarize themselves with the course layout and conditions before committing to the full event later on. Additionally, participants can camp overnight at a primitive campground within Colt Creek State Park if they choose; however, it should be noted that facilities are limited.
The course itself consists of one loop measuring 16.8 miles in length, primarily following trails through forested areas and along scenic waterways within the park boundaries. The terrain includes both flat sections as well as gradual inclines where runners will test their endurance while enjoying panoramic views from elevated points on the trail network. Water stops are strategically placed at key intervals along this route to ensure hydration needs are met throughout.
