Lyke Wake Walk - W-E (guided/supported)

About the Event

The Lyke Wake Walk, established by Bill Cowley in 1955, is an iconic challenge that traverses the heart of North York Moors National Park. Spanning nearly 39 miles between Scarth Wood Moor and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast via Osmotherley, this walk offers a unique blend of breathtaking moorland scenery and rugged terrain.
Participants embark on a journey across some of Yorkshire's most expansive open spaces, with elevations that range from rolling hills to steep climbs. The route is designed to take walkers through the widest and highest points in North York Moors National Park, providing an unforgettable experience for those who choose this challenging path.
The event allows participants to start either west-to-east or east-to-west, meeting at 04:00 before transferring by minibus to their starting point. The goal is simple yet demanding - complete the walk within a maximum of 24 hours. Most groups typically finish in around 15-18 hours.
The Lyke Wake Walk stands out for its community spirit and shared experience, with participants often connecting through platforms like WhatsApp before the event. This fosters camaraderie among walkers as they prepare together and share their journey across this historic route.
This challenging walk not only tests physical endurance but also offers a profound connection to nature, making it an unforgettable adventure for anyone seeking a unique outdoor experience in one of England's most picturesque landscapes.
