Experience the ultimate mountain biking adventure during Race #9 of 9, the Meeks Mountain Hoe-Down, hosted by the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA). This race is not just about competition; it's a celebration of community and dedication. Spanning a challenging 18 to 24 miles through hand-cut trails meticulously crafted by over 450 volunteers, this event promises an unforgettable experience for both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike. The WVMBA Cross Country Mountain Bike Series has been recognized as one of the oldest in the nation, known for its rigorous courses that attract elite riders. This series is a testament to the vibrant mountain biking community in West Virginia, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and technical challenges. The Meeks Mountain Hoe-Down stands out with its exceptional trail design, providing an exhilarating ride through scenic landscapes. All races begin promptly at 12 noon or shortly thereafter (unless otherwise posted), ensuring that participants have ample time to prepare for the day's challenges. A pre-race meeting is mandatory for all racers, offering valuable insights and last-minute tips from experienced organizers. Participants can choose from three categories based on their fitness level and skill: - Pro/Cat 1: For advanced riders tackling a distance of 18 to 24 miles. - Cat 2: Suitable for intermediate athletes covering 12 to 18 miles. - Cat 3/Beginner: Ideal for beginners or those seeking a less intense experience, ranging from 5 to 12 miles. The WVMBA is proud to announce that no USA Cycling license is required this season. However, becoming an Annual Member offers significant benefits: - A $5 discount on race entries. - Support in promoting and developing mountain biking in the state. Race entry fees are as follows (including online registration fees): - Cat 1 Juniors: $50 - Cat 2 Adults & Juniors: $60 Monday before race, $70 Sunday at midnight - Cat 3 Adults & Junors: $40 Monday before race, $50 Sunday at midnight Annual WVMBA Members receive a special discount: - Cat 1 Jrs: $25 - Cat 2 Adults & Juniors: $35 - Cat 3 Adults & Juniors: $45 Same-day on-site registration is available for cash or check, with fees of $60 for adults and $40 for juniors. Online registration closes by Friday, July 17th at 5:00 p.m., to allow time for final roster submission. Prizes are awarded based on distance: - Cat 1/Pro Categories offer cash prizes for the top three positions. - Cat 2, Cat 3, and E-Bikes categories have prize tables or special awards determined by the promoter. The award ceremony will take place at the Bowl Trail Head Main Shelter after all racers complete their courses. Overall Series awards for Cat 1 and Cat 2 precede these race-day accolades. The course features high-speed sections, punchy climbs, and uniquely named trails that add character to your ride. Hurricane, WV, is home to MMTA Trails, located at 3511 WV-34, Hurricane, WV 25526. Use the park's parking lot and bike to the back Bowl Trail Head. Be cautious of high-speed trains crossing this area.
