Mount Vernon Park 5k & 10k

The Mount Vernon Park 5k & 10k returns to Alexandria, Virginia on September 6th, 2026. This event takes runners through the scenic trails of Mount Vernon District Park.
Race morning brings a pleasant atmosphere as participants gather in the park's green spaces. Temperatures hover around an average of 21 degrees Celsius with a slight breeze from the northeast. The sky promises clear skies and plenty of sunshine, making for ideal running conditions.
Mount Vernon Park has been hosting this event since its inception; it’s now in its tenth year. Over 500 participants are expected to run both distances, supporting local charities through their participation. This race matters not just because of the distance but also due to Alexandria's historic charm and Mount Vernon District Park's natural beauty.
The course loops around two main paths: one for the five-kilometer (5K) runners completing two laps, and another that stretches out over four laps for those tackling ten kilometers (10K). Walkers are welcome to attend. The trail surface is hard and dry, ensuring a steady pace regardless of terrain.
Participants start at the park’s main entrance on Jefferson Avenue near the Visitor Center. There's no elevation change along the route; however, aid stations will be set up for hydration stops every kilometer or so. Race organizers have also arranged for a post-race celebration with refreshments and entertainment to keep everyone energized after their run.
Weather conditions are expected to feel comfortable on race day with temperatures ranging from 16.8C to 26.1C, feeling like around 21.4C due to low humidity at about 73.3%. With an average wind speed of 9.1 km/h and a moderate UV index, runners can anticipate mild conditions that won't hinder performance.
The race offers distances for all levels: the traditional five-kilometer (5K) run; ten kilometers (10K); virtual options with or without medals and shirts; and even those who simply want to support from afar.
