Honouring the Legacy: Heroes Run 2026 Join us for the sixth annual Ned’s Wish Heroes Run, set to take place on October 3, 2026. This heartfelt and unique fundraising initiative celebrates the bravery of RCMP Police Dog Bandit, who tragically lost his life in service alongside Corporal Rick Mosher near George's River, Cape Breton, on June 25, 2000. Participants are invited to commemorate Bandit’s courage by participating in a family-friendly 5km run or walk. The event welcomes both human and canine companions as they traverse scenic routes celebrating the steadfast dedication of police service dogs like Bandit. All proceeds from this year's Heroes Run will be directed towards supporting retired military and police K-9s across Canada, ensuring these loyal heroes receive the care and quality of life they deserve in their golden years. ### Event Locations #### In-Person Events Ace’s K-9 Care Location: 5877 Leslie Road, Prince George, BC Hosted by Ace's K-9 Care. The event will feature a pet fair with vendor booths, food trucks, and an engaging puppy yoga session led by certified instructors. Participants can register for the morning yoga class on race day. York Regional Police Location: 240 Prospect St at Tom Taylor Trail, Newmarket, ON Hosted by York Regional Police. This event includes a pet fair with vendor booths and food trucks but does not offer puppy yoga sessions. Tj Reid - Red Deer Trails Start Location: Cilantro & Chive, 1927 50 Avenue, Red Deer, AB Participants will enjoy the scenic trails of Red Deer as they run or walk alongside their furry friends. A pet fair with vendor booths and food trucks is also part of this event. Canine Heroes Kennel Location: 10046 Grey Road, Coldstream, BC A vibrant day filled with a 5km race course and a pet fair featuring various vendors and food trucks. Participants are encouraged to check the Facebook event page for important race day details. Langley, BC (TBD) This community-driven event will be held at a public park in Langley, offering participants a chance to run or walk through scenic local landscapes while enjoying vendor booths and food trucks. #### Virtual Participation Participants can also join from anywhere across Canada. The virtual option allows runners to complete the 5km course on their own schedule, with all race day festivities broadcasted online for community engagement. ### Registration Details Registration options include both in-person events and a virtual run. Swag packages are available upon registration for an additional fee and include exclusive t-shirts designed by Thiessens Tattoo and limited-edition PSD Bandit memorial challenge coins. Individual registrations start at $55 without swags or $100 with all race materials included. Teams are encouraged to form, fostering a spirit of camaraderie among participants as they fundraise together in honour of the brave service dogs who protect our communities daily. ### Fundraising Incentives Participants raising over $1000 will receive a special Ned's Wish hat and be entered into a competition for top fundraiser prizes.
