About the Event

The Eingin Ólavsøka race returns this year, marking the start of the traditional Ólavsøku celebrations. Held on Skálatrøð, an ideal running terrain that is flat and easy to navigate, the event attracts participants from all corners of the region. For many, it's a cherished tradition and the beginning of their Ólavsøka festivities.
The race offers various distances tailored for different age groups and skill levels. Younger runners can participate in shorter 5 km races, which are perfect for children who have just started running or those looking to ease into longer distances. These young athletes often surprise spectators with unexpected victories as they dash across the finish line.
For older participants, there's a range of options from 430 meters up to 1.3 kilometers, providing an inclusive environment where runners of all ages can compete. The race begins at 6:00 PM for younger children and transitions to teenage competitors once the youngest have crossed the finish line around 6:30 PM.
The event is meticulously organized into age groups based on birth years, with U7 being designated for those turning seven this year. Older runners who are under 14 can choose between competing in their own category or joining more seasoned adult racers, adding an element of flexibility and choice to the competition.
Participants eagerly await the announcement of start numbers and race details leading up to the event. The registration deadline is July 26 at midnight, ensuring ample time for runners to prepare. With its charming setting and festive atmosphere, Eingin Ólavsøka promises a memorable experience for all who attend.

Tórshavn, locally referred to as Havn, is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the 347-meter-high (1,138 ft) mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the 350-meter-high (1,150 ft) Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 14,223 (2024), and the greater urban area has a population of 22,444, including the suburbs of Hoyvík and Argir.
