Old Baldy

Old Baldy Trail Race invites you to immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of South Dakota’s Black Hills on Sunday, September 20, 2026. This scenic race offers runners an unforgettable journey through diverse terrain and stunning vistas near Old Baldy's summit.
The course spans a challenging yet rewarding 7.75 miles along the historic Old Baldy Trail, weaving through dense forests and rolling hills that showcase the natural splendor of the Black Hills region. Participants can expect to encounter varied elevation changes as they navigate this trail, making it an ideal event for experienced runners looking to test their mettle against nature’s terrain.
Registration is exclusively available online until 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 20th, at a cost of $25 per runner (discounts apply for BHRC members with the appropriate code). Runners aged 16 and under are welcome to participate free of charge but will not receive race swag.
Please note that there will be no aid stations along the route, so participants must carry their own water. The post-race celebration includes a hearty meal featuring French toast sticks and sausage links, complemented by an assortment of snacks and refreshing drinks to fuel your recovery.
To reach the trailhead, take Exit 8 off I-90 in Spearfish and head south on Old Belle Fourche Road/McGuigan Rd. After approximately 13 miles, turn right onto FSR 134/Tinton Rd until you arrive at the designated parking area near the start line.
Parking is limited, so carpooling is highly encouraged to minimize congestion and ensure a smooth experience for all participants. Remember that advance registration is mandatory; no race-day sign-ups will be accepted.
