Experience the breathtaking beauty and technical challenge of Wales' Brecon Beacons with this ultra marathon that weaves through stunning trails, reservoirs, and historic paths. The journey begins at George Town Boys and Girls Club in Merthyr Tydfil before venturing onto the Taff Trail. After a few miles along the trail, runners will diverge to follow winding paths alongside the River Taff northward toward Beacons Reservoir. Once reaching the reservoir's far end, participants must navigate across A470 road and ascend Pen y Fan, South Wales' highest peak at 886 meters above sea level. The descent from this summit includes a steep climb known as Jacob’s Ladder before joining the Roman Road to Torpantau. From there, runners will traverse forest tracks alongside Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoirs, offering panoramic views of the valley below. As the race progresses, participants return to the Taff Fechan Nature Reserve trails along River Taf until they rejoin the original trail leading back to the starting point at George Town Boys and Girls Club. This route is designed for both aspiring ultra runners looking to make their first big step into longer distances as well as seasoned competitors seeking a formidable challenge. The race features five checkpoints, four of which provide essential supplies such as water and food: Checkpoint 1 (6 miles) near Cwm Cadlen Road crossing; Checkpoint 2 at Pont yr Daf car park (13 miles); a check-in/check-out-only checkpoint on Pen y Fan summit; Checkpoint 3 located beside Torpantau Train Station (19.5 miles); and finally, Checkpoint 4 situated along the Taff Trail near Ffynnondwyn (26 miles). A strict cut-off time of 14:00 at Checkpoint 3 ensures that runners must maintain a pace no slower than approximately 19 minutes per mile to complete within the designated timeframe. Participants are reminded to bring their own cups for hydration, as this race operates without disposable cups. Registration will open from 6:30 AM until 7:40 AM on Saturday, November 7th, with a pre-race briefing at 7:45 AM followed by an 8:00 AM start time. This event is limited to just 200 entries, so be sure to secure your spot early for this unique and demanding ultra marathon experience. This race offers not only physical challenges but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in Wales' natural beauty and rich history along every step of its route.
