Nestled in the northeastern corner of Dartmoor, where ancient myths and legends intertwine with lush river valleys, Chagford is home to Pagan Trails. This unique race series invites runners to explore two distances: the Midwinter Marathon and Half Marathon, both winding through a landscape rich in historical significance. The Marathon route stretches over 28 miles, while the Half Marathon covers well more than 14 miles. These courses are designed by OuterEdge, taking participants on an immersive journey across north Dartmoor's stone circles and pagan sites, each step steeped in ancient history and folklore. Running through midwinter, both distances challenge runners with significant elevation gains: the full marathon climbs over 1500 meters, while the half marathon ascends nearly 700 meters. The terrain is rugged yet rewarding, offering breathtaking views of Dartmoor's wild beauty. The Half Marathon begins at 11:00 am, setting a brisk pace through this enchanting landscape. For those seeking an even longer adventure, the Pagan Midwinter Marathon offers a full day’s worth of exploration and challenge. Participants have the option to purchase XCover insurance, providing peace of mind with potential refunds due to unforeseen circumstances that might prevent attendance. Pagan Trails is more than just a race; it's an experience where runners connect not only with each other but also with Dartmoor's timeless spirit.

Uniquely amongst English counties, Devon has two coastlines: to the south, on the English Channel and to the north, on the Celtic Sea and Bristol Channel.
