Peddars Way Ultra: A Historical Run Through Suffolk and Norfolk
Embark on a 48-mile journey along Peddars Way, an ancient route that has been used for centuries. Starting at Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve near Thetford, the race follows a path through historical landscapes of Suffolk and Norfolk before reaching Holme-next-the-Sea on the coast.
The course is marked with clear signage including finger posts and National Trail Acorn markers, making navigation straightforward despite being mostly flat terrain that includes footpaths, bridleways, rural lanes, and some off-road sections. Participants will receive detailed GPS files to assist them throughout their run.
With a generous 12-hour time limit, this event is designed for runners of all abilities, particularly ideal as an entry-level ultra-distance race. Two outdoor checkpoints are interspersed with two indoor ones where hot drinks and basic facilities like toilets can be found. A shuttle bus service from the finish line back to the start ensures that those who prefer not to leave their car at the beginning can still participate comfortably.
Safety is a top priority, with first aid coverage available throughout the course. Friends and family members will also have access to GPS tracking updates via Open Tracking's live system.
Upon completing your run, you'll receive a bespoke wooden medal as well as optional items such as custom T-shirts or Buffs for purchase post-race. Note that this event is "cupless," meaning runners should bring their own reusable cups due to the absence of plastic cups at checkpoints.
The race begins on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, with early morning buses departing from Holme-next-the-Sea and arriving in Knettishall Heath by 7:30 AM for registration. The official start time is set for 8:30 am sharp.
Key checkpoints are strategically placed to ensure participants can restock on essentials like water, snacks, and hot drinks while adhering strictly to cutoff times designed to keep everyone moving at a steady pace.
Parking arrangements vary; those choosing the shuttle service must book in advance as space is limited. For runners who plan to leave their cars at either location, pay-and-display options are available but come with specific height restrictions and rules regarding overnight stays or early morning arrivals.
