Peddars Way Ultra

About the Event

Peddars Way Ultra: A Journey Through Time and Terrain
Step into history with Peddars Way Ultra, a 48-mile (approximately) route that winds through Suffolk and Norfolk. Starting at Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve and finishing on the picturesque coast of Holme-next-the-Sea, this event follows an ancient trading path used by pre-Roman settlers and later developed by the Romans.
The race offers runners a mix of terrain including footpaths, bridleways, rural lanes, and quiet country roads. The route is mostly flat and well-marked with local signage on finger posts and National Trail Acorn markings for easy navigation. Detailed GPS files are available to download and use during your run, ensuring you stay on course.
With a generous 12-hour time limit, Peddars Way Ultra caters to runners of all abilities, making it an ideal entry-level ultra event. The race includes two outdoor checkpoints and two indoor ones, each offering basic amenities such as cold drinks and snacks at CP1 and CP3, while Castle Acre Village Hall provides hot food and drink along with toilets.
Support is provided by a shuttle bus from the finish car park to the start for those who prefer not to drive their cars all day. This service must be booked in advance due to limited space on the bus.
Safety is paramount at Peddars Way Ultra, where first aid cover is available throughout the course and GPS tracking ensures that friends and family can follow your progress online. Upon completion of the race, participants will receive a bespoke wooden medal as well as optional items such as custom T-shirts and buffs for purchase.
The route features several boardwalk sections which may be slippery or partially submerged in wet conditions, so runners should prepare accordingly with appropriate footwear and gear to handle various weather scenarios. The event is cupless, meaning you must carry your own reusable cups or pour drinks directly into bottles during the race.
Registration begins at 7:00 AM on February 1st, 2026, in Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve, with a final cutoff time of 8:30 PM for finishers. Runners are advised to aim for an average pace of around four miles per hour or better to stay within the strict checkpoint cut-off times.
Parking is available at both start and finish locations but must be paid for after 10 AM on race day, with a height restriction in place near Holme-next-the-Sea. Detailed maps and route information are provided online ahead of time so runners can plan their approach carefully.
Peddars Way Ultra promises an unforgettable experience that combines historical significance with modern running challenges, offering something special to every participant who embarks upon this ancient path.
