Petzl Tunnel Vision

About the Event

Immerse yourself in an unforgettable running experience with the Petzl Tunnel Vision Night & Dawn Runs. This unique race offers runners the chance to tackle both darkness and dawn over two consecutive days, presenting a singular challenge that blends adventure and endurance.
The 5-mile out-and-back course is designed for athletes of all levels, providing a manageable yet challenging distance that rewards those who love pushing their limits in less-than-ordinary conditions. The highlight of this event lies within the Oxendon Tunnel—a formidable structure stretching an impressive 422 meters long. This pitch-black passage transforms into a mesmerizing journey illuminated by mood lighting and runners' headtorches, creating an eerie yet captivating atmosphere.
Participants can choose to take part in either or both runs:
- The Night Run kicks off at 7:30 PM on Thursday, November 5th.
- The Dawn Run begins promptly at 6:30 AM the following day, Friday, November 6th.
Both events are open to runners aged 14 and older. Early registration is recommended as entries close one week before each event. Those who wish to collect their race number, timing chip, or pre-ordered t-shirt can do so at Harborough Leisure Centre on Wednesday, November 4th from 6 PM to 8 PM.
The starting point for both runs will be clearly marked off Scotland Road behind Protheroes garage. Race day registration details and further instructions will be provided in the race pack sent out a week before each event.
On-course support is extensive with professional medical assistance available at the start, finish line, and along the route. Volunteers from Race Harborough ensure that runners are well-supported throughout their journey through the tunnel and back again.
The terrain consists of hard-packed track suitable for road or trail shoes. The surface inside the tunnel can be uneven, so a headtorch is essential to navigate safely around ruts and puddles.
In addition to the thrill of running in near-total darkness followed by the beauty of dawn breaking over your path, top male and female finishers will receive special prizes. All participants who complete either run will earn a unique event medal; those completing both runs get interlinking medals that form an impressive pair upon completion.
Post-race refreshments await at each event:
- Night Runners are treated to hot drinks and biscuits.
- Dawn Runners enjoy orange juice and croissants, setting the perfect scene for early morning satisfaction.
Race Harborough also offers complimentary digital photos of your race experience available shortly after you cross the finish line. You can find these on their Facebook page once they're ready for download.
This event supports local charities such as the Jubilee Foodbank in Market Harborough and the Weston Favell Centre Foodbank in Northampton, giving runners an opportunity to contribute towards making a difference in their community while enjoying this unique running experience.
