On World Diabetes Day, runners from around the globe come together to raise awareness and support for Breakthrough T1D, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. This year’s run honors Frederick Banting, one of the co-discoverers of insulin, whose work has transformed countless lives. The event takes place on a flat tarmac path with just a short section on gravel, making it accessible and enjoyable for all levels of runners. The course is laid out as a 3.1-mile loop that can be completed multiple times over a six-hour window. Participants have the option to aim for shorter distances or challenge themselves by completing longer ones: half marathon (4 laps plus an additional short out-and-back section), full marathon (8 laps plus another short out-and-back), and ultra-distance runs of 9+ laps. Whether you’re looking to complete one lap or push yourself to your limits, everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a medal and official race time. The event organizers ensure that runners stay energized throughout with drinks stations offering both sweet and savory snacks along the route. All proceeds from this run go directly towards supporting Breakthrough T1D’s groundbreaking research efforts. By participating in this meaningful event, you contribute to making significant strides toward curing Type 1 diabetes. The race adheres strictly to UKA rules and is permitted by the Trail Running Association with a specific permit number (TBA). Age restrictions apply: participants aged 18-19 are limited to marathon distance, while those over 20 have no maximum distance limit. Join us in celebrating World Diabetes Day and making a difference for people affected by Type 1 diabetes. The event promises an inspiring atmosphere filled with support from fellow runners and volunteers who share the goal of advancing research and improving lives impacted by this condition.
