Experience the ultimate challenge at the Pisgah 111, an endurance mountain bike race that stretches across the breathtaking landscapes of Pisgah National Forest. Spanning 65.1 miles with 10,200 feet of climbing, this course is a testament to the region's iconic trails and gravel roads, offering runners a truly unforgettable journey. The route weaves through some of the most scenic areas in the forest, providing riders with an unparalleled view of changing fall colors and rugged terrain. The adrenaline will be pumping as you navigate through tight singletrack sections that test your limits, followed by challenging climbs that showcase the true spirit of endurance racing. Participants follow a course marked with arrows, ensuring clear navigation even for first-timers. Four rest areas are strategically placed along the way to provide much-needed support and sustenance. These stops offer water, snacks like PB&J sandwiches, fresh fruit, salty treats, energy bars, as well as first aid stations and mechanical assistance from neutral volunteers. While you won't need map-reading skills for this race, it's highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the terrain by studying the provided course maps. The trails are known to push your physical boundaries while rewarding you with stunning vistas of nature at its best. Race day starts early on Saturday morning as sign-ins open from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM, followed by a mandatory racer meeting at 7:45 AM and the official start line opening at 8 AM. The race concludes with a final cutoff time set for 10 PM. Safety is paramount in this event. Cyclists must wear an approved cycling helmet throughout their ride. While support from fellow racers is allowed, outside assistance is strictly prohibited to ensure fair competition. Riders are expected to maintain single-file formation except when passing others and should adhere to local traffic laws at all times. Electric-assist bikes (E-bikes) are not permitted in this race. A front light with a minimum of 250 lumens must be used after 7 PM due to the late-night hours. The Race Director reserves the right to disqualify any rider for violations or other reasons, and all participants are required to sign in upon completion. Parked at the start/finish area? Don't expect it; there's very limited space available. Be prepared with a resourceful mindset as numerous parking lots can be found near NC280 and US276 intersections. Make sure to check for no-parking signs and park responsibly. The race offers plenty of support through four well-stocked rest areas located at Turkey Pen Parking Area (Mile 13.5), FS1206 at Yellow Gap, and FS1206 at FS476. These stops are designed to keep you fueled and ready for the next leg of your journey. Riders can also send drop bags containing essential gear like a one-gallon zip lock bag per rest area (approximately two large water bottles) filled with personal items such as food, clothing, or anything else needed during the race. For those looking for more action-packed events, consider joining the King and Queen of Pisgah series. The event is under special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Ready to take on this epic challenge? Mark your calendar now as you prepare to tackle the Pisgah 111 – where scenic beauty meets endurance testing in one unforgettable race.
