Deep within the rugged and breathtaking Pisgah National Forest lies the Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventure Race (PMBAR), an unparalleled test of endurance and teamwork. This race challenges teams of two to navigate through 4 out of 5 secret checkpoints, covering routes that range between 50-80 miles with a daunting elevation gain of 9,000-15,000 feet. Teams must complete the course in any order they choose within 7-14 hours or until the final cutoff at 10 PM on race day. The event is set amidst some of North Carolina’s most stunning natural landscapes, offering a mix of challenging terrain and breathtaking views that will test both body and spirit. Participants are expected to be fully prepared for all conditions, as no water or food support will be available once they leave the start/finish area. Teams must stay together at all times and carry their bikes along with essential gear throughout the race. The mandatory racer meeting on Saturday morning sets the stage for what lies ahead. The race officially kicks off at 8 AM sharp, setting teams on a journey that demands precision navigation and unwavering determination. With no support vehicles or drop points available, racers must rely solely on their skills and resources to make it through. The Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventure Race is not for the faint of heart; it requires meticulous planning, physical fitness, and mental fortitude. Teams will face a variety of obstacles including potential medical emergencies, navigational challenges, mechanical issues, encounters with wildlife, and exposure to stinging or poisonous insects and plants. The race director reserves the right to disqualify any team for reasons that may include rule violations. Teams must adhere strictly to the official Pisgah Map Company – Pisgah Ranger District map provided by Avenza Maps app. Use of other online maps like Trailforks is prohibited, as they are not considered an approved source for navigation during this event. Race logistics and sign-in details are available from 5 PM on Friday until race day at the start/finish area located across US276 from Davidson River Campground in Pisgah Forest. Detailed directions to reach the venue are provided, ensuring that racers can plan their journey effectively. Participants must bring all required gear including helmets, mobile phones with charged batteries, rain jackets, water filters or iodine, emergency blankets, first aid kits, whistles, lighters, compasses or GPS units, and specific types of lights. Avenza Maps app is highly recommended for digital map access to ensure seamless navigation. Lodging options are plentiful nearby at the Sunset Motel in Davidson River Campground, as well as the Hampton Inn Brevard and Holiday Inn Express Brevard hotels. However, please note that no refunds will be issued once registration fees have been paid. The Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventure Race promises an unforgettable experience for those who dare to take on its formidable challenges.
