Prairie Goat VK 2026: A Vertical Feast for Aspiring Goats! Step into the heart of SpringHill Winter Park and prepare yourself for an epic vertical challenge that pushes your limits like never before. This year marks our third annual Prairie Goat VK, a grueling but exhilarating race set against the backdrop of Treaty 1 territory, honoring the rich cultural heritage of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples as well as the Red River Métis Nation. The mission is straightforward yet daunting: accumulate an impressive total vertical gain of 1,000 meters within a strict four-hour window. To achieve this feat, you’ll face a relentless loop that’s just 400 meters long but packs in both steep descents and punishing climbs. Each lap will test your endurance as you descend into the valley only to climb back up to the summit, repeating this cycle until you complete an impressive thirty laps. The race unfolds on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with a morning start at SpringHill Winter Park. Race day activities kick off early, starting with bib pickup from 7:00 AM to 7:40 AM, followed by a crucial racer meeting at 7:45 AM before the race officially begins at 8:00 AM sharp. Aid stations will be strategically placed along your route, offering essential hydration and nutrition in the form of water, electrolytes, energy bars, and fresh fruit. Remember to bring your own reusable cup as this is a zero-waste event! Why should you sign up for Prairie Goat VK? Here are just a few reasons: - Celebrate your achievement with a commemorative finisher’s medal. - Compete for the coveted ‘GOAT’ trophy awarded to those who complete the most laps before noon. - Enjoy an adrenaline-pumping soundtrack curated from song requests submitted by participants, enhancing the race atmosphere. - Capture unforgettable moments with complimentary high-quality course photos provided on race day. The event fosters a vibrant community spirit that extends beyond the finish line. A post-race BBQ offers runners and spectators alike the chance to swap stories of grit and determination in an inclusive environment. Logistical details are crucial for your success: - Drop bags can be left at designated areas but no pacers will accompany you. - Spectators are encouraged to cheer from key points along the course, adding extra motivation as you climb back up after each descent. Carpooling is highly recommended due to limited parking space. Safety on race day is ensured by St. John Ambulance’s presence throughout the event.
