Step into the second annual Race Against Suicide, an inspiring community event organized by the Missouri Suicide Prevention Network alongside the Missouri Behavioral Health Council. This year’s edition brings together runners and walkers from across Missouri to raise awareness and promote hope regarding suicide prevention. The race offers two options: a traditional 5K run/walk and a new addition of a scenic 10K route, giving participants more ways to get involved. The event takes place at the recently inaugurated Roy Blunt Center for Healthcare Integration and Innovation Building, located on West Edgewood Drive. This state-of-the-art facility serves as both the starting point and finish line for all races, while nearby local trails provide a welcoming environment that caters to runners of all ages and abilities. This race transcends being just another run or walk; it is an opportunity to come together in memory, support, and action. The event welcomes individuals who are honoring loved ones lost to suicide, those supporting someone struggling with mental health issues, advocates for prevention efforts, and anyone standing in solidarity for mental wellness awareness. It’s a day dedicated to the power of community connection and the importance of mental health. Participants can register early or on race day at 3450 W Edgewood Dr., where they will find registration booths and packet pickup stations. The 10K race starts promptly at 9:00 AM, with same-day registration beginning at 7:00 AM for that distance. For the 5K run/walk, registration opens at 8:00 AM on September 26th, with a start time of 9:30 AM. Registration fees vary depending on when you sign up: - Early Bird (May 19 – August 15): $45 for the 10K and $30 for the 5K. - General Registration (August 16 – September 26): $50 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. - Race Day: $55 for the 10K and $40 for the 5K. All participants will receive a commemorative race medal, while early registrants can secure additional swag items such as a Carhartt beanie. The event also features community vendor booths where you can connect with local organizations dedicated to mental health awareness and support services.
