Join Aviation Action for Run the Runways: A Challenge for Suicide Awareness, an inspiring initiative that has been raising crucial funds and awareness since 2020. This September, you can participate either at Humberside Airport on Saturday, September 5th, or virtually throughout the month from any location of your choice. The live race offers a flat runway experience with distances varying each day between under 1500 meters to nearly 4 kilometers. Participants must arrive by 6:00 PM for a safety briefing at 6:45 PM and the start time is set for 7:00 PM sharp, with no latecomers admitted. For those opting for the virtual challenge, you'll have the opportunity to run, walk, or jog along different airport runways each day throughout September. The journey begins on September 1st at Inverness Airport and ends on September 30th in Frankfurt, covering a total of nearly 69 kilometers over thirty days. Since its inception, Run the Runways has raised more than £100,000 for mental health support within the aviation industry. This year's funds will be directed towards two key initiatives: establishing an independent peer support network and providing specialized suicide awareness training to employers and teams across the UK. On World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th), participants are encouraged to run in memory of someone significant or to show solidarity with a colleague who may need extra care. This day serves as a poignant reminder that every step counts towards breaking down barriers around mental health discussions within aviation communities. Registration fees vary depending on your chosen format and whether you have sponsorship requirements. For the live event, options start at £40 for those meeting minimum sponsorship targets of £150, while virtual entries range from £30 to £45 based on location and additional support needs. Participants will receive a bespoke Run The Runways t-shirt as part of their entry package, ensuring everyone feels connected through this shared challenge.
