Set against the serene backdrop of Clinton State Park, located at Overlook Park (798 N 1402 Rd, Lawrence, KS), the Sanders Saunter Charity Race offers runners an unforgettable experience. Featuring distances of 50K, 25K, and 10K, this annual event is organized by the Lawrence Trail Hawks to support The Battle Within, a charity dedicated to mental health support for heroes. The race kicks off early on November 7th with staggered start times: the grueling 50K begins at dawn (7:00 AM), followed by the 25K runners an hour later. The shorter but equally scenic 10K starts promptly at 9:00 AM, allowing participants to enjoy a mix of challenging terrain and breathtaking views. The course weaves through Clinton State Park’s diverse landscape, starting and finishing at Shelter 1. Runners will encounter the rolling hills around Sanders Mound, with ascents and descents that test endurance while providing stunning vistas. The route includes sections along white, yellow, blue, and connector trails, offering a varied terrain for each distance. Aid stations are strategically placed to support runners throughout their journey: - Lake Henry (optional): 3.3 miles - Lands End: 7 miles and again at 11.3 miles - Lake Henry (second time): 12.7 miles For the longer distances, drop bags can be stored at both Lands End and Start/Finish for easy access to gear during the race. The event is dog-friendly but requires participants' furry companions to remain on leashes and under control throughout the course. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Awards will be given to top male and female finishers in each distance, as well as a special Non-Binary award category. Packet pickup is available on Friday evening (5-7 PM) at Lawrence Beer Company WEST or race morning before the start times.
